Freedom Farm is excited to provide the Stable Moments program!
Susie is a Certified Stable Moments Director
The children we will serve in the program are in foster care or have been adopted and experienced developmental trauma. Their lives have been unstable and they’re often unable to imagine a future. Each day they have had to worry if they’ll eat and where they will be sleeping. The Stable Moments program provides an individualized plan helping develop life skills to transition into adulthood and encourage self worth.
Stable Moments program model:
The program matches one child, with one horse, and one mentor, for one hour per week for 10 months.
Research shows that the most important thing to help children through adverse childhood events is one stable relationship with a healthy adult.
Keeping sessions the same time each week, makes them something a child can rely on and look forward to.
Why Horses?
Horses are best for children who have experienced early childhood trauma due to the connection in their characteristics. Just like the kids we serve, horses constantly scan, sense, and assess their environment for threats. Horses have the ability to sense our emotions and uncover things about ourselves that we may not even know. They see far beyond our outward presentation and deep into our true selves. Horses help us get to know ourselves better.
Why Mentorship?
While the nature of a horse is therapeutic itself – the real science is behind the mentorship. The Stable Moments program keeps the “I Matter Factor” at the core of everything we do. It’s a theory that children shouldn’t be asked to learn or develop life skills until we’ve shown them they matter. A mentor who can take one hour a week to show up, be engaged, and provide a stable moment promotes that “I Matter” feeling.
Once your application has been reviewed you will be sent an online training to complete before you can attend onsite training
