Horses Give Katie Strength & Confidence

Katie is 16 years old and has been riding at Freedom Farm since she was 4! Riding once a week has improved her core strength, posture, & confidence.  Katie has cerebral palsy. Karen, Katie’s mom, says her daughter’s best moment was being able to ride solo without the lead rope attached. Katie has also learned how to ground herself and overcome her anxiety.  “The horses are a great stress relief for her!” says Karen.

Katie also gets recognition for her accomplishments at Freedom Farm.  Susie and everyone offer her attention, positive reinforcement, and encouragement.  Riding is Katie’s special thing, something her twin doesn’t do with her, so this has helped her develop self-confidence.

Katie has ridden many horses at Freedom Farm over the years, including Cassie, Irish, & Timmy, who is her favorite.  “I like his smooth trot and his rhythm,” she says.
